HackensackUMC Foundation held the 14th Annual Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle to benefit the Emergency & Trauma Center at HackensackUMC.
Under perfect, sunny skies, hundreds of bikers lined up at the IZOD Center to take part in the annual Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle. This year’s event set a fundraising record of more than $542,000, the highest grossing event in its 14 year history. This year’s event brought the overall total raised over 14 years, to more than $5,000,000.
“I congratulate the HackensackUMC Foundation and our good friend, Joe Sanzari for hosting another successful event,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of Hackensack University Health Network. “The Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle gives HackensackUMC friends and supporters a chance to come together to not only enjoy a beautiful day, but also to make a meaningful difference. The Charity Run has become one of the ‘must-do’ events of the summer and I am so proud of our team who works hard to pull it all together.”
Escorted by police from various towns, the bikers rode from the IZOD Center in East Rutherford to the “Party Under the Bridge” at Ross’ Dock in Fort Lee, which included family-friendly games and plenty of food and entertainment. Live music throughout the day was provided by the Earthgrinders, DJ Willie Wilson and DJ Bill Reeves. Skies were blue and spirits were high as HackensackUMC’s AirMed One helicopter did a flyover at the event.
The beneficiary of this year’s proceeds is the HackensackUMC Emergency & Trauma Center renovation project. HackensackUMC’s ETC, Bergen County’s only state designated trauma center, is expanding to offer specialized pods and individualized treatment suites, providing care that is patient and family focused.
“This event brings members of the community together to support a great cause,” said Joseph M. Sanzari, HackensackUMC Board of Governors, who started the annual charity run and motorcycle raffle. “People from all walks of life - from bikers to doctors to those in law enforcement - look forward to this event, which gets bigger and better every year.”
New this year was the VIP tent for “Breakfast with Joe” at the IZOD Center, where bikers and friends received a full breakfast menu and a chance to say thank you to Joe in person. At Ross’ Dock, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Operations Officer Ketul J. Patel pulled the winning ticket for the 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide motorcycle donated by Joseph Sanzari, valued at $22,444. The winner, a River Edge resident, bought his ticket online the day before the event.
