A Season of Generosity at HackensackUMC with the New York Giants

Hackensack University Medical Center has always been proud of its partnership with the New York Football Giants. This past year was filled with significant developments, including the introduction of Tackle Kids Cancer (TKC), a groundbreaking fundraising program to find a cure for pediatric cancer. As the year winds down, the Giants and TKC supporters have embodied the spirit of the holidays and made a difference in the lives of pediatric patients.

On December 22, Giants’ Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning and Giants’ kicker Josh Brown, made a special surprise visit to the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital.  Manning and Brown visited with patients and their families, and offered each child a holiday present.

On the same day, former Giants’ center, Shaun O’Hara, visited the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, as well, to hand out Hess Toy Trucks that were donated by Hess Corporation. Hess visits hospitals annually along theEast Coast to donate Hess Trucks to young patients and brighten their holiday season. O’Hara distributed the trucks, signed autographs, and took photos with patients and their families.

Earlier in the week, an incredible milestone was reached by ‚Ä™TKC thanks to its devoted supporters. One such supporter was Manning, as his family’s personal contribution enabled TKC to surpass the $1 million mark in donations.  More than $1 million raised in just over three months is a significant achievement, and was acknowledged with an on-field recognition moment during the New York Giants vs. Carolina game on December 20.

“We have been proud partners with the New York Giants since 2009,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “The amazing success of the Tackle Kids Cancer campaign in such a short period of time, demonstrates the endless possibilities when we combine our collective strengths. As we work together through TKC, we are opening the door together for new treatment and better care for our pediatric cancer patients. We are grateful to Eli Manning and the Giants for the selfless giving of their time.”

TKC has raised funds through fun and interactive ways, which includes special events with the Giants. Following its launch event at Modell’s Sporting Goods in Times Square, that featured an exclusive Tackle Kids Cancer shirt, Manning and other Giants team members took part in a Monday Night Party event at Ainsworth Park in Manhattan. The sold-out event raised funds to support TKC.

Every dollar received through the TKC campaign supports the Children’s Cancer Institute at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital (part of HackensackUMC).  To learn more, visit www.TackleKidsCancer.org and follow Tackle Kids Cancer on social media: www.facebook.com/TackleKidsCancer; Twitter: www.twitter.com/TackleKidsCancr; and Instagram: @TackleKidsCancer.
