CentraState Healthcare System Affiliates with Hackensack University Health Network, Inc. for Oncological Services
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP— John T. Gribbin, president and CEO of CentraState Healthcare System, and Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of Hackensack University Health Network, today announced an affiliation agreement for oncological services for the two health care systems.
As John Gribbin explains,“Today marks a substantial next step for cancer care in central New Jersey as we join together the Cancer Center at CentraState with the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center for oncological services. Our community will benefit greatly from the additional depth and breadth of cancer services from a leading tertiary hospital.”
The initial elements of this newly forged relationship are in pathology services. The foundation of any outstanding cancer program is rooted in the clinical performance of pathology and recently, board-certified pathologist and Hackensack physician, Paul Simon, DO, was named medical director of the pathology department at CentraState Medical Center. “This was only the first step in building a strong program for individuals in our community who are living with cancer,” explains Gribbin. “Other services that we will be strengthening in the months ahead include greater access to clinical trials being offered locally through the John Theurer Cancer Center; increased resources for genetic testing; and gynecological oncology services.”
“With the changing landscape of healthcare, strategic partnerships for key services lines between partnering hospitals enhances the quality of patient care,” explained Robert C. Garrett. “Hackensack University Medical Center’s reputation as the number one hospital and cancer center in New Jersey and one of the top three hospitals in the New York Metro area demonstrates our continuing commitment to quality healthcare.”
Board-certified hematologist/oncologist, Bhavesh Balar, MD, who is a board member of the Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) and chairman of the cancer committee at CentraState Medical Center explains, “CentraState has built a strong cancer program and this affiliation will enhance what is currently offered to patients. We have a reputation of having a strong professional connection between oncology specialists and primary care physicians. We are members of the same hospital community and are committed to continuing the continuity of care for the best clinical outcomes for our patients. This new partnership expands the integral role of primary and specialized care physicians orchestrating the best care available locally to improve cancer survivorship.”
Board-certified hematologist/oncologist, Andrew Pecora, M.D., chief innovations officer, professor and vice president of Cancer Services, John Theurer Cancer Center and president of Regional Cancer Care Associates, echoes the same sentiments, “Integration of cancer specialists with the primary care physicians in central Jersey will allow the seamless sharing of best practices between a nationally recognized cancer center and a well-respected, community-based hospital. We are able to bring the best of both worlds together.”
“The affiliation with CentraState focusing initially on pathology will bring an essential piece to deliver top notch cancer care across the board,” said Andre Goy, M.D., chairman and director, and chief of Lymphoma, John Theurer Cancer Center and chief science officer and director of Research and Innovation of Regional Cancer Care Associates. “We are very proud of the expertise of the pathology team at HackensackUMC; this affiliation is very much in line with bringing innovation and best practice closer to home, altogether improving both the outcome and experience for every cancer patient.”
