Dr. Michael Farber Field-side During the Copa America Tournament

With more than 82,000 soccer fans in the stands at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, during the finals of the Copa America Tournament, Michael Farber, M.D., medical director of Executive Health at HackensackUMC and one of the medical managers of the Copa event, was praised for teamwork that provided top-notch health care for players and others associated with the game.

This year's tournament, a high-profile international event, was a special edition honoring the 100th year of Copa America. From a medical standpoint, each Copa America event required extensive preparation involving venue medical coordination of acute care on and off the field, management of doping control, and activation of services that meet international standards of soccer athlete care.

"Supported by our team at HackensackUMC, during the course of this nearly one-month tournament, we met the needs of several of the top soccer clubs in the world, addressing many acute care issues during the course of medical management," said Dr. Farber. “We were pleased to receive feedback describing how we exceeded expectations expeditiously and professionally on an international level by providing world-class care.”
