Dr. Oz Show: Rosie O Donnell and Life After Weight Loss Surgery

February 20, 2015 10:18 AM

Rosie O’Donnell explains how having a nearly fatal heart attack three years ago led to her decision to have bariatric surgery. Amit Trivedi, M.D, of HackensackUMC, who performed Rosie's surgery, discussed state-of-the-art options available to patients, including gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy and lap-band surgery. According to Dr. Trivedi, of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, bariatric surgery continues to benefit people struggling with morbid obesity. Recent studies show that bariatric surgery patients are living longer lives than morbidly obese individuals.  For those overweight by 100 pounds or more, bariatric surgery may be the best option for safe, long-lasting weight loss.
