Fiona Gupta, M.D., a neurologist with HackensackUMC discusses the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne illness that is spreading through South America and the Caribbean. To date, there have been several cases diagnosed in the United States, but only in people who have traveled to other countries where Zika virus has been known to occur. Though harmless for most people, Zika may cause birth defects in infants born to mothers with the infection.
