HackensackUMC Earns the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Award Three Years in a Row

Hackensack University Medical Center is pleased to announce it has been honored for the third consecutive year with the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Award.
The most prestigious environmental achievement award offered by Practice Greenhealth, the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award recognizes health care facilities that exemplify environmental excellence and are setting the highest standards for environmental practices in health care. HackensackUMC is the only hospital in the New Jersey/New York area to win this award three years in a row.
“I want to congratulate Deirdre Imus and our entire sustainability team at The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center® for their hard work and dedication,” said Ihor S. Sawczuk, M.D., president of HackensackUMC. “Our sustainability program grows stronger each year as a result of a truly collaborative effort. We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to the health and safety of our patients and staff, environment and wider community.”
HackensackUMC was recognized as a Top 25 honoree for continued commitment to sustainability in health care practices as well as a Top 10 honoree for its approach to leadership, safer chemicals and environmental purchasing.
“Environmental awareness is an important part of our culture at HackensackUMC,” said Kyle Tafuri, senior sustainability advisor, The Deirdre Imus Environmental Heath Center, HackensackUMC, who accepted the award on behalf of the medical center, along with his colleagues, Jose Lozano, chief of staff, vice president for Corporate Services and Governance, Hackensack University Health Network; Ken Haber, director of Environmental Health and Safety, HackensackUMC; and Caricel Lebron, supervisor, Environmental Services, HackensackUMC. “People are starting to understand the connection between sustainability and overall good health. That education continues to be an important goal.”
The Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards were presented in Dallas, TX, on May 19 at the CleanMed Conference and Exhibition. Practice Greenhealth is a leading health care community dedicated to transforming health care worldwide so that it reduces its environmental footprint, becomes a community anchor for sustainability and a leader in the global movement for environmental health and justice.
