Tthe Poddar Family Conference Lounge has been established in the John Theurer Cancer Center.
On April 30, The HackensackUMC Foundation held a ribbon cutting to unveil the Poddar Family Conference Lounge in the John Theurer Cancer Center. The conference lounge is located directly across from the conference rooms on the first floor of the Cancer Center. This is in recognition of the $1,000,000 pledge to fund the Artech Autoimmune Cell Re-Education Study at HackensackUMC. The Artech funds will enable Dr. Yong Zhao to establish a research laboratory at HackensackUMC to further his work in addressing autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Zhao’s research will include the study of Alopecia Areata (AA), an autoimmune disease that leads to chronic and relapsing hair loss. Ranjini and Ajay Poddar of Artech Information Systems, LLC, are committed to supporting the study of AA to bring attention to this disease as well as other autoimmune conditions. Dr. Robert Korngold, chairman of the Department of Research and the Jurist Research Center at HackensackUMC, the host of Dr. Zhao's activity, says the goal is to better understand the mechanism for modulating autoimmunity in Alopecia Areata and other types of diseases such as Type One Diabetes, Crohn's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
