HackensackUMC Foundation Holds 15th Annual Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle

June 30, 2015 03:36 PM

The threat of thunderstorms didn’t hold back the hundreds of bikers at the IZOD Center for the 15thAnnual Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle.  This year’s event raised over $500,000 for the HackensackUMC Emergency and Trauma Center.

“Congratulations to the HackensackUMC Foundation and our good friend, Joe Sanzari for another successful Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of Hackensack University Health Network. “Year after year, this exciting event gives our supporters a chance to come together and enjoy an exciting day, a pleasant motorcycle ride, and a lively party afterwards all while raising funds for our world-class programs and services.”

Escorted by police from various towns, the bikers rode from the IZOD Center in East Rutherford across the George Washington Bridge and back again, then along the Palisades Interstate Parkway, ending at the “Party Under the Bridge” at Ross’ Dock in Fort Lee.  The Ross’ Dock festivities included family-friendly games and plenty of food and entertainment. Live music throughout the day was provided by the Earthgrinders, DJ Willie Wilson and DJ Bill Reeves. Despite the threat of thunderstorms, the rain stayed away until after the event was over.  HackensackUMC’s AirMed One helicopter was able to fly over the event with cheers from the crowd.

The beneficiary of this year’s proceeds is the HackensackUMC Emergency and Trauma Center renovation project.  HackensackUMC’s ETC, Bergen County’s only state designated trauma center, is expanding to offer specialized pods and individualized treatment suites, providing care that is patient and family focused.

“For 15 years, the Charity Run and Motorcycle Raffle event continues to be bigger and better providing a  different type of event bringing members of the community together to support a great cause,” said Joseph M. Sanzari, HackensackUMC Board of Governors, who started the annual charity run and motorcycle raffle.   “I’m so proud to be a part of one of the biggest highlights of the summer.”

At 8 a.m., the special VIP event, “Breakfast with Joe” was held at the IZOD Center, where bikers and friends received a full breakfast menu. At Ross’ Dock, Mr. Sanzari’s young grandson pulled the winning ticket for the 2015 Harley-Davidson FLTRXS Road Glide Special in “Vivid Black” donated by Joseph Sanzari, valued at $23,199.

The event’s major sponsors provided generous support. They included the Sanzari Companies, A. Macchione Brothers Inc., the International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA Local 1804-1), Power Concrete Company, Inc., Roman Asphalt Corporation, DLanzo Plumbing & Sewer Contractors Inc., Inserra Shop-Rite Supermarkets, Sanzari Marine Companies, Inc., Smith-Sondy Asphalt Construction Company, Vanguard Surgical Center, Active Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Alfred Sanzari Enterprises, Bergen Brookside Autobody, HackensackUMC Fitness & Wellness Powered by the Giants, the New York Football Giants, Riverside Medical Group, Sanzari's New Bridge Inn, Stony Hill Inn, and Unitex Textile Rental Services.
