November 22, 2016 12:58 PM

With Lincoln Center as the backdrop and Sting as the headline entertainment, the HackensackUMC Foundation’s 23rd Annual Recognition Gala made extraordinary memories and set a fundraising record.

“I want to congratulate the entire HackensackUMC Foundation team on yet another successful and memorable gala,” said Robert C. Garrett, co-CEO, Hackensack Meridian Health. “Their tireless work throughout the year consistently yields impressive results that directly benefit our patients and their families.”

More than 1,600 guests attended the event on Saturday, October 15.  As they entered David Geffen Hall, where Sting performed, guests were greeted by Lincoln Center musicians and ballet dancers. Both the ambiance and the entertainment greatly contributed to the success of this year’s gala, which is typically the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  This year, the gala surpassed all previous records in terms of charitable contributions.

“I am proud to share that this year’s gala was the most successful to date in that we raised a record-breaking $4 million to support pediatric cancer research and the Regenerative Medicine Institute at HackensackUMC,” said Jon M. Fitzgerald, president and chief development officer, HackensackUMC Foundation.  “I couldn’t be more proud of our team’s accomplishments and am so grateful for the outstanding commitment by our supporters who continue to demonstrate the true spirit of generosity.”

The 2016 Annual Recognition Gala Committee was chaired by Mark Schlesinger, M.D., chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, HackensackUMC, who has overseen the event for 23 years.

Established in 1980 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the HackensackUMC Foundation raises funds that support the diverse programs and services at the medical center.  The Foundation accepts contributions in the form of: direct cash gifts and pledges, matching corporate gifts, planned gifts and naming opportunities.  For more information on upcoming events or ways to donate, please call 551-996-3720 or visit www.HackensackUMCFoundation.org.
