Hackensack University Medical Center patient families enjoyed a star-studded night out at the Roc Nation Summer Classic charity basketball game, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on July 21. The families were accompanied by David Jurist, Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC Advisory Board member and close friend of baseball great, Robinson Cano, and Theresa Valentino, director of Development for the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC Foundation. The event featured teams led by celebrities including baseball players Robinson Cano and C.C. Sabathia, boxer Miguel Cotto, and singer Nick Jonas, to help fundraise for their respective nonprofit foundations. In 2005, Mr. Jurist initially connected Cano, then the Yankees’ second baseman, with pediatric cancer patients at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital.
Robinson Cano’s Foundation, RC22 Foundation, generously donated 50 tickets to bring the HackensackUMC patients and their families to the Summer Classic event. After Cano’s team won the evening’s competition, he graciously greeted all of the families, spent time with the children, took pictures and signed autographs. The families also received packages of toys and sports articles donated by FlagHouse, Inc., a global supplier of resources that enable physical activity, learning and play for people of all ages and abilities.
