Hackensack University Medical Center is pleased to announce that it has advanced from a three-star rating to a four-star rating, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The hospital rating system, which began in April, is based on the 11 publicly-reported measures in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey (HCAHPS). HackensackUMC improved its HCAHPS survey results, which measure patients’ experiences and satisfaction.
“We are proud of the improvement HackensackUMC has demonstrated in our patient experience scores,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “Today, there are more resources for patients that offer transparency and useful information to make informed healthcare decisions. HackensackUMC remains committed to patient- and family-centered care, and I commend our entire healthcare team on their dedication to our patients’ satisfaction.”
“Improving our rating from three to four stars is no ordinary accomplishment. It truly takes an entire team – across different departments and positions - to care for one patient,” said Dianne A.M. Aroh, executive vice president, chief patient care and clinical officer at HackensackUMC. “There is always room for further opportunity, and our team will continue its commitment of providing world-class, effective care in the most patient- and family-friendly ways.”
CMS’ Hospital Compare website is part of a broader effort that offers consumers simple, five-star rating systems based on publicly reported measures. In addition to hospitals, the site rates nursing homes, home health providers, dialysis facilities and large group practices. The rating system began in April 2015, and will be updated quarterly. The most recent ratings are based on HCAHPS survey results for the reporting period from October 2013 to September 2014.
