HackensackUMC recently held the annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony to celebrate the medical center’s 1,960 volunteers.
HackensackUMC paid tribute to its 1,960 volunteers who performed an impressive 270,000 hours of service in 2014. The value of this service represents $6.9 million in donated labor for HackensackUMC. During the ceremony luncheon, the entire team was recognized, as well as those celebrating milestone years for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 year anniversaries.
“This is one of our most favorite events at the medical center and we’re so humbled to be here to honor you,” said Maureen Keating, vice president, Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC. “What each of you do every day by volunteering offers so much to our patients, their families and to our healthcare team. We truly wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you and the generosity of your time.”
“Our volunteers are hard-working people, with different life experiences,” said Catherine Dipasquale, manager, Volunteer Services, HackensackUMC. “But, they all have at least one thing in common - they generously give their precious time for our patients’ comfort and well-being.”
The volunteers assist various departments throughout the medical center from the mail room, to all patient care areas, pastoral care, gift shops and even in animal-assisted therapy activities.
Certificates of gratitude were presented to three volunteers for their long-standing dedication to the medical center and leadership roles:
Rosemarie Sorce, Department of Pediatrics volunteer – 15 years. Rosemarie is also a member of several boards including the HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees and secretary of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors. In addition, she is chairman of the Children’s Hospital Advisory Committee and a member of the Auxiliary of HackensackUMC.
Peggy Liosi, HackensackUMC Foundation volunteer – 20 years. Peggy is also a member of several boards, including the HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees and the HackensackUMC Board of Governors. In addition, she is the current president and former vice president of the Auxiliary of HackensackUMC.
Ann Marie Saccaro, Department of Pastoral Care volunteer - 35 years. Ann Marie is also a member of the HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees and the HackensackUMC Pastoral Care Committee. In addition, she is the former president and current vice president of the Auxiliary of HackensackUMC.
“It has been my pleasure to work closely with two honorees who are near and dear to the Foundation, Peggy Liosi and Annmarie Saccaro. What a team,” said Elizabeth Donald, director, Annual Giving, HackensackUMC Foundation. “Thank you, Ro, for your boundless energy and generosity as a member of the Foundation Board. All of our volunteers give us one of the most valuable commodities in our society – and that is their time. Our staff, our visitors and especially our patients are better for their presence.”
