In my spare time, I enjoy baking, playing piano, and attending spin/indoor cycling classes at Flywheel. Having spent all my life in the Midwest, I’m ready for fun, new experiences while living in the east coast.

Sam Lu, M.D.

College: UC Davis
Medical School: The Ohio State University
EM Interests: EMS/disaster medicine, international medicine
Bio: I grew up mostly in Los Angeles, but was fortunate enough to travel around a bit growing up. I went to The Ohio State University for medical school (Go Bucks!) before coming for residency at HUMC. I'm excited to be living in a large metropolitan area again and exploring what this place has to offer. In my free time, I like to travel, eat all kinds of foods, and play video games when I can. In the future, I can see myself exploring a fellowship in international medicine or EMS/Disaster.

Molly Malone, M.D.

High School: Tabor Academy

Bio: Both my husband and I were born and raised in Massachusetts and are diehard Boston sports fans. I am from a small town on Cape Cod and being the daughter of a Commercial Fisherman, I LOVE the ocean. When I'm not enjoying the fruits of the eastern seaboard, my husband and I are road tripping the east coast visiting family and friends with our fur-baby, Dasha, a German Shepherd mix. I enjoy trying new recipes, relaxing outside with a cold beverage and my latest hobby is gardening! Turns out I have a green thumb!

Medical School: University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
EM Interests: Ultrasound, International Medicine
Interests: Soccer, Cooking, World economics and politics and hanging out with family
Bio: I was born and raised in Nigeria. I immigrated to the United States for College. I spent 5 years working in the real world before medical school and was “that student” in medical school who was married and doled out relationship advice for a fee. My world begins and ends with my 22 month old son. I chose EM because I love the scope of pathology one can be exposed to in the length of a shift. I love to work hard but also have time for life’s other festivities.

Amber Peterson, M.D.

College: University of Pennsylvania
Medical School: Drexel Univeristy School of Medicine
I was born and raised in Prince George's County, Maryland. I moved to Philadelphia for college at the University of Pennsylvania and I loved Philadelphia so much that I stuck around for medical school at the Drexel University College of Medicine. I was attracted to Emergency medicine because of my interest in community service and diverse pathophysiology. I aspire to a career in Emergency Medicine administration and hope to secure a fellowship in administration after completion of residency.

Shannon Pickup, M.D.

College: Syracuse University
Medical School: The Commonwealth Medical College
EM Interests: Critical Care, EMS/ Disaster Medicine, International Medicine
Interests: Reading, dancing, traveling, running, hiking/ exploring the outdoors
Bio: I was born in Philadelphia, PA, spent most of my childhood in Columbia, Missouri, then returned to the Philadelphia area. I went to Syracuse University, and explored the idea of a career in medical research vs clinical practice. I worked as a surgical scrub tech for an oral and facial surgeon, then worked as a research associate at UPenn, doing biomedical research employing NMR and/or MRIs. I also started volunteering as an EMT, which is where I first fell in love with Emergency Medicine! I went to the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, PA where I had the opportunity to travel to both Haiti and in Honduras providing medical care. These were incredibly enlightening and rewarding experiences, and I plan to continue involvement in international medical outreach and disaster relief throughout my career.

Emily Sze, M.D.

College: University of Maryland
Medical school: University of Maryland School of Medicine
Interests: hiking, anything outdoors, sewing, reading, crafting, volunteering at my firehouse in Maryland, spending time with my family/friends/pets
EM interests: international medicine, violence prevention, EMS and pre-hospital care
Bio: I am originally from Maryland and attended the University of Maryland for both undergrad and medical school, where I learned important facts such as how to speed walk across a 2-mile campus in ten minutes, how to properly crack and eat crabs (Old Bay), and the reason why humans bleed red is because we are all secretly Maryland Terrapins fans. I developed an interest in emergency medicine after spending several years volunteering as a firefighter/EMT in Maryland. Hackensack has the triple threat in residency - huge volume, very high acuity, and great people. I plan to stay in the mid-Atlantic area after finishing residency.
