Hackensack University Medical Center registered dietitians (RDs), experts in food and nutrition, are educated and credentialed to provide medical nutrition therapy. A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who has met academic and professional requirements including a bachelor’s degree, completion of an accredited, supervised practice program of 1200 hours, and passing a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Some RDs also hold additional degrees and certifications in specialized areas of practice; such as pediatric, renal or oncology nutrition; diabetes education or nutrition support.
At Hackensack University Medical Center we have professional registered dietitians who specialize in medicine & surgery, nutrition support, pediatrics, diabetes, and oncology. During your stay, please ask to speak with a registered dietitian if you have questions or concerns about your special prescribed diet. Our adult outpatient services include counseling in diabetes management, weight control, allergy and immune disorders, and cardiac nutrition intervention. To make an appointment for outpatient nutrition counseling at the Dave Winfield Nutrition Center please call 551-996-3231.
Our outpatient pediatric services offer nutrition counseling in the following clinics: oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant, and healthy futures. Healthy Futures is an interdisciplinary weight loss program for obese children ages 8-18 years. General outpatient nutrition counseling appointments are also available by calling 551-996-5004.
The Department of Nutrition & Food Management offers catering for on-site business meetings and special events. Our catering department encourages healthy choices that support employee and workplace health. If alternatives to the intranet options are desired, please contact the NFM catering coordinator directly at extension 4710, Monday through Friday, 10AM-6PM. Events so discussed are required to be booked through the intranet to ensure accuracy and optimal service.
All food requests require 2 days notice for purchasing, preparation, and delivery assignment purposed. Special alternatives may require more than two business days notice. Orders with less than two days notice may incur additional charges.
Catering must be approved by the department’s Director or Vice President. Cost center to be charged is included at time of order.
