Interventional Radiology is where we perform minimally invasive procedures. The treatments are performed by Radiologists using imaging guidance such as MRI, Ultrasound, X-rays and Computed Tomography (CT) to diagnose diseases. Interventional Radiology procedures may replace surgical procedures. For most patients the IR procedures involve no large incisions, less risk, less pain and shorter recovery times.
Before Your Procedure
Bring your insurance information, personal identification, list of current medications, prescription for the exam and any prior studies and reports for comparison.
Depending on your procedure you may need a ride home.
During Your Procedure
The IR procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short hospital stay. General anesthesia is usually not required. Risk, pain and recovery time for the patient are often significantly reduced. The procedures are typically performed using needles and narrow tubes (catheters); this prevents large incisions into the body as in traditional surgery.
After Your Procedure
You can expect your physician to receive a written report within 3 to 5 working days.
