Our Pediatric Emergency Department is managed and staffed by highly qualified and specially trained nurses, Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and physicians. These healthcare professionals have extensive experience in caring for children and young adults with emergency needs which may range from minor injuries to critical care. Our pediatric emergency physicians are in the department 24/7, and are board-certified or board-eligible in pediatrics, with many of them also board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine. Our Advanced Practice Nurses work along with our physicians to evaluate and manage the care of our patients.
Many of our Magnet award-winning nurses are certified in pediatric nursing or pediatric emergency nursing and all are certified in pediatric trauma care and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Adult Advanced Life Support (ACLS). Our staff nurses, APNS and physicians also attend ongoing education in the field of pediatric emergency medicine.
Our medical/nursing staff works closely with social workers and child-life specialists, who help to reduce stress and anxiety by encouraging effective coping strategies for children and their families who are dealing with stressful situations.
The many Pediatric subspecialist services from the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital are available to the pediatric emergency department physicians for consultation. Our pediatric emergency medicine physicians and subspecialists will interact closely with your child’s primary care physician to provide appropriate acute care and follow-up care.
