Pulmonology

The Pediatric Pulmonology Section offers comprehensive respiratory care for infants, children, and adolescents. Our Pediatric Respiratory Care Improvement Team is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art and standardized asthma treatment for children who are admitted to the Children’s Hospital with acute asthma. The team’s many initiatives have led to improved quality of acute asthma care in the inpatient setting. The team’s effort on acute asthma has been recognized by The Joint Commission, which has granted these initiatives as Disease Specific Care (DSC) for pediatric asthma.  Our physicians have received recognition for excellence in their fields.

Beyond asthma, our specialties are diverse. We evaluate, diagnose, and treat cystic fibrosis, persistent cough, chronic and recurrent pneumonia, sleep disorders and related breathing abnormalities, respiratory technology-dependent children, and other respiratory problems both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. 

The Pulmonary Function Laboratory utilizes child-friendly equipment to measure lung function. We evaluate children with sleep disorders, including sleep-disordered breathing, at the Sleep-Wake Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center. The Sleep-Wake Institute was one of the first in Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Union, and Sussex counties to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, a distinction it has held since 1994.
