WMBC TV: Senior Citizen Safety

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of three older adults, ages 65 and older, falls each year. The Trauma/Surgical Critical Care & Injury Prevention Section of the Department of Surgery at HackensackUMC held a free event for seniors at HackensackUMC Fitness & Wellness. Meliam Gonzales, RN, a trauma nurse at HackensackUMC says the event was geared toward helping seniors stay safe.
Topics included home and traffic safety; food safety; fall assessment; lifeline; and medical assessment.
Guest speakers were Kelly Rippey, M.D., trauma surgeon and Lisa Tank, M.D., chief of Geriatrics at HackensackUMC.
