WABC TV: Uterus Saved

Abdulla Al-Khan, M.D., the director of the Center for Abnormal Placentation (CAP) and division director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Surgery at HackensackUMC recently preserved and reconstructed a patient’s uterus despite complications from placenta accreta. The patient, who was diagnosed in her home country of Saudi Arabia at 34 weeks into her pregnancy, flew to New Jersey hoping that doctors at HackensackUMC would be able to save her uterus. Dr. Al-Khan delivered the patient’s baby, then reconstructed the woman’s uterus during five hours of surgery. Dr. Al-Khan says this case offers hope for women who are told they need a hysterectomy.
