A new gene-based therapy known as CAR-T is offering hope to patients whose blood-based cancers have progressed despite conventional treatment. The John Theurer Cancer Center is the first center in New Jersey certified to offer an FDA-approved CAR-T cell therapy to adults, and The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital of Hackensack University Medical Center is the first in New Jersey certified to offer an FDA-approved CAR-T therapy to pediatric patients and young adults. Andre Goy, M.D., is chair and executive director of the John Theurer Cancer Center and hematologist/oncologist at Regional Cancer Care Associates, which has been involved in CAR-T cell therapy research for almost a decade.
