7 Children Die from Adenovirus Outbreak

The state Department of Health says that seven patients have died at a long-term care facility in Wanaque after an outbreak of adenovirus, which has also sickened several other patients at the facility. The Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation has been barred from admitting new patients until the outbreak ends. Julia Piwoz, M.D., section chief of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital says that young children and people with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable. (Note: This news story was also featured in The Record, WABC and WNBC.)
