Gender Bias: Prevalence of Autoimmune Diseases in Women Gives Rise to New Theories

Autoimmune diseases affect somewhere between eight and 20 percent of the population and more than 75 percent of those affected are women. Krupa Pandey, M.D., a neurologist at the Neuroscience Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center says there are common symptoms of autoimmune diseases, including excessive, unexplainable fatigue, weight changes, hair loss, changes in the sensory system, joint and muscle pain and unexplainable fevers.
