Providing Care for Multiple Conditions

Over the past few decades, great strides have been made in the neuroscience field. Not only have we acquired a much better understanding of how neurological conditions arise, how they affect daily functioning in a person’s professional and personal life, and how to make precise diagnoses, but we have also been able to apply this understanding to successfully treating neurological signs and symptoms and to slow, halt, or even reverse the progression of a disease. This holds true for a range of neurological diseases. At Hackensack University Medical Center, our renowned, fellowship-trained physicians provide care for multiple neurological conditions, including:

  • Stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases
  • Seizures and epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders
  • Multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune conditions
  • Brain tumors
  • Concussion, post-concussive syndrome, and traumatic brain injury
  • Degenerative spine diseases
  • Migraines and other headaches
  • Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathies and other hereditary diseases

A Team of Specialists

Recognizing the widespread impact that neurological disorders have on the lives of our patients and their loved ones, our team includes:

  • Neurologists and neurosurgeons. Some of our patients are cared for by both neurologists and neurosurgeons who share similar subspecialty interests, such as the care of people with Parkinson’s disease, head trauma, epilepsy, brain and spinal tumors, spine conditions, and cerebrovascular diseases.
  • Counseling psychologists who help patients with health behaviors and adjusting to the disease.
  • Nurses who, with our doctors, help educate patients. respond to their questions, and coordinate care.
  • Neuropsychologists and cognitive rehabilitation therapists who work together to assess memory and executive function and help patients function better.
  • Physical therapists, who help patients move more efficiently, safely, and comfortably.
  • Occupational therapists, who support patients’ optimal function and their ability to perform daily tasks, despite neurological deficits.
  • Speech and swallowing therapists, who work with patients so they can speak more clearly and swallow safely.
  • Registered dietitians, who design specific diets that are easier to swallow or can help with seizures or Parkinson’s disease.
  • Urologists, who are available for people with bladder problems related to a neurologic illness.
  • Foot and ankle orthopedists, who care for people with foot drop and deformities.
  • Sleep specialists, who are experts in the assessment and treatment of sleep problems related to a neurologic illness (such as Parkinson’s disease, headache, or multiple sclerosis) or which contribute to an illness (for example, headache).
  • Geriatric specialists, who work closely with other team members to optimize the health of and reduce the impact of aging in people over age 60.

Moreover, with very few exceptions, we offer these services in a single building with convenient parking.
