Acieta Small, DNP, MSA, RN, NE-BC, Administrative Director of Nursing, Medicine, Surgery and Oncology
Dr. Acieta Small, administrative director for Medicine, Oncology and Surgery, comes to Hackensack University Medical Center with an extensive and varied background in nursing leadership. Dr. Small’s clinical experience is in medicine, surgery and critical care. Her previous leadership roles include serving as the director for Cardiac Services and the administrative coordinator for Ambulatory Care Services. She has led nursing teams in academic centers as well as community hospitals within the United States and Canada.
Peers and staff have praised Dr. Small for her transformational and situational leadership acumen. She is passionate about healthcare quality and was awarded a grant from Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Phi Epsilon chapter for her proposal to explore the link between teamwork and quality care. Dr. Small is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA), The National Black Nurses Association and The American Nurses Association (ANA). Additionally, she is published in the American Journal of Nursing.
Most recently, Dr. Small was the director for Patient Care Services at the Warren Campus of St. Luke’s University Health Network with responsibility for inpatient care, case management, and staff education, as well as leading the implementation of the Nurses Improving Care for Health Systems Elders (NICHE) program. In addition to being board certified in Nursing Administration, Dr. Small holds a master’s degree in Health Care Administration and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She also dedicates time to help students in her role as an adjunct professor at George Washington University.
