Urology Residency Program
An Immersive Residency Experience
Hackensack University Medical Center’s Department of Urology is dedicated to providing a broad, immersive experience that fully prepares our residents for a promising future in the field of urology. All residents graduate our program with comprehensive, finely tuned training in all surgical sub-specialties of urology as well as a passion for sharing their knowledge with others.
Intern Year (PGY-1)
High level peri-operative patient care is the focus of this introductory year. Anchored by an integrative exchange between the General Surgery Department and the Urology Department, first-year residents are able to experience a large variety of procedures.
Second Year (PGY-2)
During the pivotal second year, residents focus heavily on their surgical skills. With a vast array of cases to choose from, residents receive hands-on experience in our well run, state-of-the-art facilities and learn from faculty who are committed to providing the highest-quality education.
Third and Fourth Years (PGY-3 and PGY-4)
In the third and fourth years, our residents are immersed in “mini-fellowships” in male sexual health, female urology, and pediatric urology, as well as outpatient training in these disciplines. Our program also offers a fully protected quarter for research.
Fifth Year (PGY-5)
In the final year as chief resident, OR volume and the high complexity cases encountered — combined with a diverse patient population at Hackensack University Medical Center — ensure that our residents leave Hackensack University Medical Center well prepared for their own clinical practice or fellowship. The chief resident is also instrumental in guiding fellow residents and developing the skills required to be a leader in a high-reliability organization.
Meet Our Faculty
In addition to teaching general urology, many of our faculty at Hackensack University Medical Center and Mountainside Medical Center are fellowship trained to offer specific areas of expertise in the education of our residents.
