Our Nursing Volunteering and Mission Work


Volunteer Work


Lisa Archer, MSN, RN, Emergency and Trauma Center. Provided health screenings for hypertension and diabetes, as well as education on nutrition in Newark, NJ.

Nicole Argenzia, BSN, RN, CPNBarbara McGoey, BSN, RN; and Lori Torsiello, BSN, RN, The Center for Allergy, Asthma & Immune Disorders. Provided asthma screenings to underserved areas in the Hackensack community by way of the Asthma Information Relief (A.I.R.) Express Mobile Care Unit. The team of nurses visits every elementary school in Hackensack throughout the year to perform asthma screenings and education.

Teresita C. Dimaano, BSN, RN-BC, Mediplex Endoscopy. Volunteered for Colon Cancer Prevention Center (CCPC) Endoscopy Services. A booth was set up to raise public awareness on colon cancer prevention through the use of handouts, posters, endoscopy services/modalities and information, including the high-tech “Third Eye” in retrograde colonoscopy.

Judith A. Haystrand, MSN, RN, APN-C, Information Technology Department. Provided weekly primary healthcare to uninsured adult residents of Bergen County through the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative in Hackensack, NJ.

Christine Lisa, RN, OCN, John Theurer Cancer Center, raised $3,000 for an organized fundraiser for Gilda’s Club in Hackensack, NJ, which provides emotional and social support for people touched by cancer.

Kathleen L. Raines, MSN, RN, APN-C, CDE, Donna A. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Inpatient/Outpatient Diabetes Center and Planetree. Volunteer service on the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE).

Christine Vinci, RN, Nursing Practice and Research. Volunteered for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) which provides comprehensive services to families with muscle diseases.

Missions


Katrina Caturan, BSN, RN, Operating Room, participated in the International Medical Mission to Yap, Micronesia, providing dental, medical and surgical services to adults and children.

Portia Chinnery, BSN, RN and Magallie Lominy, RN, Emergency and Trauma Center. International medical mission to Port Salut, Haiti to care for patients who do not have access to healthcare.

Doreen Tabussi, BSN, RN, CPN, Steven Bader Immunological Institute, Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. International mission to Bermuda with Habitat for Humanity and the Coalition for the Protection of Children.

Nanette B. Tan, BSN, RN-BC, CGRN, Pediatric Surgical Suite and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Assisted with the University of San Carlos Carolinian Nurses Alumni Association (USC-CNAA) Holiday Fundraiser. All proceeds benefitted the USC-CNAA’s medical mission/clinic to serve the healthcare needs of the poverty-stricken and underserved Filipino families in Catmon, Cebu, Philippines.

Barbara Zanetto, BSN, RN, CNOR, Main Operating Room, participated in the International Medical Mission to New Nyanzia Provincial Hospital in Kenya, Africa, providing life-changing surgical procedures and medical treatment for children in underdeveloped countries.
