Magdalena Spariosu, M.D.
Dr. Magdalena Spariosu is Interim Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. She is board certified in Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine.
Dr. Spariosu completed medical training at The University of Medicine & Pharmacy in Romania in 1996. She completed her residency training at Mount Sanai School of Medicine – Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY in 2005. In 2006 Dr. Spariosu completed her fellowship in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine – Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY.
Dr. Spariosu’s professional experience at Hackensack University Medical Center started in April 2011 as a Psychiatry Attending in the Consultation Liaison Psychiatric Services. In 2012 she became the Chief of Consultation Liaison Psychiatric Services. Her role expanded to Vice Chair and Medical Director of Psychiatric Hospital Based Services in December of 2013.
Dr. Spariosu holds several academic appointments. She is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry for St. George’s University School of Medicine and is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry for Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Spariosu is also a member of the Seton Hall Neuroscience and Behavior Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Spariosu’s research interests are focused on Wernicke’s encephalopathy, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures and maternal mortality in post-partum patients with psychiatric disorders.
In 2005 Dr. Spariosu was awarded The Outstanding Performance and Service Award as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. In 2015 & 2016 Dr. Spariosu was nominated for New Jersey Medical School Golden Apple Award. In 2018 Dr. Spariosu was selected as one of Bergen Magazine’s Top Doctors. Dr. Spariosu has presented at national and international professional conferences.
