Breast Care Support and Advocacy

We believe that support and education are vital components of your healing. You’ll have access to a wide range of psychosocial support services that will help you and your family better cope with breast cancer. Speak with your nurse or other member of your care team to learn more about these support groups.

Share Your Experiences

Counseling services and support groups give you the opportunity to share your experiences with an experienced counselor, as well as other women facing similar issues and challenges. Special support groups include those for:

• People with breast cancer
• Caregivers
• Children of breast cancer patients, through a creative arts support group

There is a dedicated support group for women with breast and gynecologic cancers. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the 4th floor conference room at John Theurer Cancer Center, part of Hackensack University Medical Center.

Survivorship Services

Thanks to advances in screening and treatment, people diagnosed with breast cancer are living longer today than ever before. At Hackensack University Medical Center, we offer a suite of services for breast cancer survivors that promote your physical and emotional health after you’ve completed your cancer treatment.

Our Support Groups

In a support group, discussions may address:

  • Coping with feelings of loss, sadness, and fear
  • Adjusting to changes in self-concept and body image
  • Treatment options
  • Managing the side effects of treatment
  • Communicating with family members, friends, and physicians
  • Stress reduction
  • Community resources

We also conduct activities with the American Cancer Society, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, and other local groups to raise breast cancer awareness.
