The Aftercare Advantage
Your weight loss journey does not end after you lose the weight or recover from surgery. We offer a long-term aftercare program to help you maintain the healthy lifestyle changes you have made. This continuing care means that you get ongoing support and help even after your initial treatment is finished. Follow up is an important part of helping you make sure that you lose the weight and keep it off. The long-term aftercare you receive through The Center for Bariatric Medicine and Surgery helps ensure your continued weight loss success.
Your care begins immediately after surgery, on our bariatric floor with post-operative education. About 7-9 days postoperatively, all patients attend a post-operative class to orient you to your new anatomy. This class includes all the elements you need to know to be successful after surgery. We review the post-surgical diet based on your individual situation, and discuss your changed nutritional and other needs.
Shortly after that, you will have a session with a registered dietitian, who provides additional information about diet as you move further along in your recovery from surgery. We will also discuss your lab results with you, and explain to you how your nutritional needs may have changed at this point in your recovery from surgery.
Our follow up continues over time—we meet with you periodically to make sure that you are losing weight and maintaining your nutritional status. Free monthly support meetings help you keep up with your diet and other requirements by giving you the support of others who are in the same situation as you are. Studies have shown that people who share the weight loss journey and have group support and long-term follow up tend to have more success.
Our commitment to providing you with the best possible care does not stop at the surgical suite—we’re with you every step along the way as you regain your health through weight loss.
